The snow is pilling up, the mercury is falling down (don’t
worry I don’t actually own a mercury thermometer) and everything relating to
Christmas has arrived! Well, aside from Christmas itself of course.
Now that I’m finished with my exams (Wahoo!) I feel like
finally start enjoying all that this season has to offer. Like baking holiday cookies (because who really only bakes cookies at Christmas?), decorating and
visiting family.
I love all the decorations that go up this time of year.
Mostly because I’m a magpie and seeing all the twinkling lights and the snow
sparkling in the sun or under streetlights just makes me happy.
This year I bought a little fake Christmas tree to put up in
my apartment. It’s just the right size and the lights were already wrapped
around it so it was a breeze to set up. I love it! (by the way if the seemingly
floating fire in the background of my picture is worrying you don’t worry it is
only the fireplace channel on my TV. Yup just my attempt at making it look cozy :) )
However, by far my favourite thing about this time of year
is watching everyone come back together again. I flew home today and during my
trip I over heard a lot of conversations of people explaining that they had x
amount of time off work and that they where on there way to see their family
and how excited they were.
While waiting for my luggage at the carrousel I recognized a
lady that had been on my flight, lets call her Mary ;) . I remembered that I had seen
her as I was getting off the plane asking the stewardesses if they had any
stickers and they told her that they did not but told her where she may be able
to find them. Well, while I was waiting another lady with young (around 3 or 4
y/o) twin boys approached Mary. Mary’s face light up and, after giving each boy
a big hug, she pulled out two stickers, one for each of them. I cannot tell you
how much witnessing this warmed my heart. I know it was such a simple little
thing but seeing how happy Marry was to see these little boys made me so
excited for the holidays and reminded me what this time of year is all about :) .
What are your favourite things about this time of year?
